Import contacts from a CSV file
Export your list from Excel, Google Sheets, your POS or your CRM as a CSV file and upload it. Columns from the header row are matched to contact fields such as name, email and company, and extra columns can be used as values for message variables — for example a “due_amount” column used as {{due_amount}} in a payment reminder.
Numbers are cleaned up for you
Real-world lists are messy. Numbers written as 01712345678, +8801712345678 or 8801712345678, or typed with Bangla digits such as ০১৭১২৩৪৫৬৭৮, are normalised to one consistent format (+8801XXXXXXXXX). Entries that are not valid Bangladeshi mobile numbers are flagged so you can fix or drop them.
Duplicates are detected
If the same number appears twice in your file — or already exists in your contacts — it is detected during import, so your list does not grow with copies of the same person and nobody receives the same campaign twice.
Export whenever you need
Your contacts are your data. Export them to CSV at any time to back them up, share them with a colleague or move them into another system.
Respecting people who opt out
When someone asks not to receive your messages, keep that request on record. Numbers that are blocked or have opted out are skipped when you send campaigns and are reported as skipped in the campaign summary. This protects your brand and keeps you in line with the SMS Policy and the consent rules every sender must follow.
Sync contacts from your own systems
If your customer list lives in an online store, CRM or ERP, you can keep SMSGELY up to date through the contacts API: list and search contacts, create new ones, update details and delete records with scoped API keys (contacts:read and contacts:write). Creating a contact with a number that already exists returns a clear conflict response, so your sync job can update the existing record instead.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What file format do I need to import contacts?
A CSV file with a column for the mobile number. Other columns such as name, email or company can be mapped to contact fields, and extra columns can be used as variables in your messages.
My list has numbers in different formats. Is that a problem?
No. Bangladeshi mobile numbers in common formats — 01XXXXXXXXX, +8801XXXXXXXXX, 8801XXXXXXXXX and numbers written with Bangla digits — are normalised automatically. Invalid numbers are flagged.
What happens to duplicate numbers?
Duplicates are detected during import. When you send a campaign, a number that appears more than once is only messaged once.
Can I export my contacts?
Yes. You can export your contacts to CSV at any time from the dashboard.
Who is responsible for the contacts I upload?
You are. You decide who is in your list and must have permission to message them. SMSGELY processes the contacts on your behalf to deliver your messages, as described in the Privacy Policy.
