Group SMS
Group SMS to the people who need it
At a glance
- Reusable contact groups
- Send to one or several groups at once
- Duplicates and opted-out numbers skipped
- Personalise with {{name}} and other fields
Build groups that match how you work
A contact can belong to more than one group, so you can organise the same people in different ways: by branch, by class, by customer type or by event. Add contacts manually, import them from a CSV file, or add them through the contacts API from your own systems.
- Schools: classes, sections, teachers and guardians
- Businesses: branches, departments, wholesale and retail customers
- NGOs and associations: members, volunteers, field teams and donors
- Clinics: doctors, staff and patient follow-up lists
Sending to a group
When you choose one or more groups as recipients, SMSGELY builds the recipient list for you. If a number appears in more than one selected group, it is only messaged once. Numbers that are invalid, blocked or have opted out are skipped, and the campaign summary shows how many were skipped and why.
Before you confirm, you see the number of recipients, the number of SMS parts and the estimated cost. A group send is created as a campaign, so it has its own report showing how many messages were delivered, failed or are still pending.
Personal messages, sent to many
Group messages do not have to be identical. Use variables such as {{name}}, {{mobile}} and {{company}} and each recipient receives their own version — “Dear Rahim, your monthly meeting is on Thursday at 4 pm.” instead of “Dear member”.
Keep in mind that the final length depends on the values you insert. A long name or a Bangla value can add a part or switch the message to Unicode, so check the preview before sending.
Send now or at the right time
Group messages can be sent immediately or scheduled for a specific date and time in Bangladesh time (Asia/Dhaka). Schedule a reminder for the morning of an event, or a notice for the start of the working day, and let the platform send it for you.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between group SMS and bulk SMS?
Group SMS sends to contact groups you have saved in SMSGELY. Bulk SMS is the broader term for sending one campaign to many recipients — from groups, an uploaded file or the API. Both create a campaign with its own report.
Will someone in two groups receive the message twice?
No. When you send to several groups, duplicate numbers are detected and each number is messaged only once. The campaign summary shows how many duplicates were skipped.
Can I personalise a group message?
Yes. Use variables like {{name}}, {{mobile}} and {{company}} in your message or template, and each contact receives the message with their own details filled in.
How do I stop messaging someone who asked to be removed?
Numbers that are blocked or have opted out are skipped automatically when you send a campaign, so they will not receive group messages even if they are still in a group.
